Bats are known carriers of a multitude of viruses and disease. Calling in our Eastern Pine experts to safely exclude them from your home is a must!
While they’re unlikely to turn you into a vampire, bats are known to carry over 60 zoonotic viruses – i.e., viruses that can be transferred to humans and other species – including rabies, ebola, and nipah.
What’s more, bats nesting in attics are much more common than most people realize. Furthermore, like mice (and Northern Flying Squirrels), bats have very small bodies, which means they can fit through the tiniest of spaces in their quest to get into your home and set up camp.
Our Eastern Pine experts have found evidence of bat activity in the form of guano (droppings) at any number of homes where the homeowners had no idea bats were living there. This is significant because even if you have no physical contact with the bat itself, their guano can release any of the many viruses they may be carrying into the air when stepped on.
In short, we always recommend that you use caution when entering your attic, whether you believe you have bat activity up there or not! It’s always a good idea to wear a dust mask when entering an attic, and at any sign of bat guano, it really is important to call our Eastern Pine Pest & Wildlife technicians in to safely and humanely remove the bats from your property.
